Cliveden celebrates women in power over lunch, tea and dinner

Join Ann Widdecombe, Miranda Hart and more for a series of luncheons, dinners and afternoon teas honouring the accomplishments of women

Berkshire’s five-star Cliveden House is honouring former resident Nancy Astor on the centenary in which she became the first female MP to take her seat in Parliament with “Women in Power” – a series of luncheons, dinners and afternoon teas showcasing the talents of inspirational women.

Former MP Ann Widdecombe will launch the proceedings on May 10, when she will join guests for lunch (£115 per person) to talk about her career in politics and work as a novelist. On June 5 (price yet to be announced), award-winning freelance journalist and consultant Olivia Falcon will team up with Fiona Golfar, fashion insider and journalist, to discuss skincare, nutrition, needles and aesthetics, while Elizabeth Day, journalist, podcaster and author of the bestselling memoir How to Fail – Everything I’ve Ever Learned From Things Going Wrongwill be in attendance on July 19 for afternoon tea (priced £70 per person). Comedian Miranda Hart will join the line-up at a later date.

Cliveden’s gilded French Dining Room

Guests joining Widdecombe for the first lunch can expect a champagne reception, before taking their seats in Cliveden’s gilded French Dining Room, installed by Astor’s husband, who had the ornate panelling and furniture transported from the house of Madame de Pompadour, mistress of Louis XV, in Paris. Here, they will enjoy a starter of English burrata with pickled onion, Jersey Royals, broad beans and mint, followed by roasted stone bass and a warm salad of heirloom tomatoes, piquilo peppers and aubergine caviar.
