Dashing dog clothes and accessories from Pepito & Co

Colder days call for the cosiest canine sweaters

Chic gift giving to dogs – and/or their owners – has become as much a thing at Christmas as fancy advent calendars. But not many pet apparel brands are as smart as Pepito & Co, the Spanish online retailer that designs and sells a stylish array of dog clothes and accessories, from the brand’s cornerstone cosy canine jumpers to its brilliantly bonkers bow ties.

“It all started when we adopted a rescue dachshund called Pepe one January,” says Madrid-based founder and designer Celia Jerez. “When he was found he was frozen, and he became terribly afraid every time he felt cold. So I knitted many sweaters for him and eventually for the rest of the dogs in the park, as their owners liked my contemporary designs.” The vibrant jumpers – in scarlet and teal stripes, for example, or charcoal with canary-yellow crosses – come in 100 per cent organic Egyptian cotton (€49) for less warmish climes and merino wool/acrylic for colder days (€50).

Jumpers aside, one of Pepito & Co’s bestsellers is the ergonomically genius Melollevo dog carrier (from €140), which converts into a dog bed. It has spacious outer pockets to carry food, a water bottle and toys, and the waterproof exterior (with perforated sides for ventilation) and interior linings are customisable in a wide array of colours. Also popular are raincoats (from €60) made from recycled polyester, knitted blankets (€63) and brightly patterned harnesses (from €25).

“In the beginning we were just having fun, but when we realised there was a market and people liked our creations, we built a company based on our values, combining respect for animals and the importance of pet adoption with great design, humour and eco-friendly materials.” Lucky pups.
