Globe-Trotter and New & Lingwood’s knockout collaboration

Stunning silk linings by New & Lingwood single out this bespoke trunk series

The new Kenneth Branagh-directed adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express, bringing together Dench, Depp and Dafoe among others, will be steaming into cinemas next month where – for luggage aficionados – the elegant suitcases and travel paraphernalia will be just as seductive as the 1930s costumes.

This then is the perfect time for a collaboration between Jermyn Street outfitters New & Lingwood and Globe-Trotter on a collection of beautifully crafted bespoke trunks (from £1,675).

The design process starts from the outside in, when the client selects one of 13 colours for Globe-Trotter’s vulcanised fibreboard cases and from a choice of eight for the leather straps, handles and corners. The fastenings and locks can come in either polished brass or chrome – useful on a train like Agatha Christie’s Orient Express of course, where crime is rife.

The inside of the case is where New & Lingwood comes into play, with eye-popping 100 per cent silk linings, handwoven in Suffolk, punctuated with peacocks – in either hot pink or, more vibrant still, turquoise with pale pink plumes. Monogramed initials complete the trunk – although as a passenger on the Orient Express, given that false identity gives the plot most of its twists and turns, perhaps this gives the game away.
